                LAW UPDATES
-Remote Online Notarization (RON) law was recently signed into law by the governor.
The process for preparing for online notarizations will be rolled out in stages over the next several years with notaries finally being able to do online notarizations starting in January 2030. We’ll give you an update once we receive information from the Secretary of State.

-There are NO notary law changes 
effective JANUARY 1, 2024

6 EASY STEPS TO BECOME
A NOTARY PUBLIC

1.  Take the 6-hour "Becoming                                  a California Notary Public" course.​

2.  Take a 45-question multiple-choice exam​.

3.  Submit Live Scan fingerprints to commence       a background check​

4.  Receive your commission in the mail.​

5.  File your bond and oath of office in the                County Clerks​

6.  Take it to the next level and become a
      Certified Loan Signing Agent (optional)                          

 

QUALIFICATIONS

​

  • ​Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be a legal California resident (U.S. Citizenship not required)

  • Complete a course of study approved
    by the Secretary of State.

  • Satisfactorily complete and pass a written examination prescribed by the Secretary of State.

  • Clear a background check (Live Scan Fingerprint)
